Study Participation Instructions
Welcome, and thank you for your interest in supporting this research study!
This study is part of a Bachelor thesis at the University of Passau and investigates how users perceive different ways of presenting uncertainty in the responses of an AI assistant.
Your participation will help us better understand how different uncertainty formats influence user trust and usability perceptions.
How the study works
The study consists of two parts:
1. Interaction with the AI Assistant
You will interact with three different versions of an AI assistant.
Each version uses a different method to display uncertainty (e.g., verbal, visual, numerical).
You can access the AI assistant here:
For each version, please follow these steps:
- Interact with the assistant for several minutes, as you normally would in a chat.
You may ask any question (e.g., about knowledge, explanations, opinions, interpretations). - After each interaction, return to the survey and complete the short questionnaire for that version.
This process repeats three times—one for each uncertainty format.
2. Completing the Survey
The survey is hosted via Microsoft Forms.
The survey collects your impressions on:
- How trustworthy the AI responses felt
- How understandable the uncertainty display was
- How easy the system was to use
- Overall usability of the system (final questionnaire)
You will complete a short questionnaire after each AI version, and a final overall usability survey at the end.
The entire study takes approximately 20–30 minutes.
Anonymity and Data Use
- All responses are recorded anonymously.
- No identifiable personal data will be stored.
- Data is used exclusively for academic purposes as part of the Bachelor thesis.
- You may stop participating at any time.
By continuing, you agree that your anonymous responses may be used for research.
Thank you for your participation!
Your contribution is highly appreciated and helps advance research in human–AI interaction and uncertainty communication.
